Department for Education
It is such a pleasure to be able to congratulate this year’s Festival of Learning award winners. The Department for Education is proud to be a longstanding supporter of this important project.
For the last 25 years, Festival of Learning, and its predecessor, Adult Learners’ Week, have given us a glimpse into the lives of some of our most inspiring adult learners. I am pleased that we are able to mark and celebrate the achievements of those learners, learning providers, tutors and employers that are making a special commitment to education and training throughout people’s working lives. There is no better way of inspiring others than through personal stories.
We want to encourage so many more people to take up the chance to learn throughout their lives. Along with employers, we will have the chance to make a difference –to make a mark not just on a personal level, but on the world around us. These stories are as diverse as they are inspiring.
This is a strength of our adult education system and is something that we must work together to maintain. It means that whoever you are, however old you are and wherever you live there can be opportunities to learn. Learning is about change and it is about progress.
I am delighted to be able to support this Festival of Learning as we work together to make sure that lifelong learning becomes a reality that is encouraged and supported for everyone.
