As part of its People Strategy, Luton Community Housing launched its management development programme ‘Bees Knees’. In just one year, staff training increased by more than 40% and staff turnover reduced from 33% to 16%.
The Bees Knees programme is offered across all departments at three levels: Talent, Growth and Expert. Twelve monthly workshops are designed to develop core managerial behaviours as well as covering traditional leadership skills such as performance management.
Following their training learners report increased levels of confidence and competence in their people management role. Some gain an internal promotion while others move on to progress their career in more senior roles at partner organisations. Many choose to enhance their learning by studying other formal qualifications.
Luton Community Housing also supports its Bees Knees trainers to become Belbin Accredited and is therefore able to offer staff at other local charities places on the programme.
One member of staff, Susanne said “During my 10 years at Luton Community Housing I have been encouraged to continuously strive to improve myself, both personally and professionally. The Bees Knees programme helped me develop in a range of subjects whilst also gaining an NVQ qualification.”
Marketing and Communications Team Leader, Daisy said “Bees Knees actively upskills employees to their highest potential, empowers people to grow and achieve, and develops staff into inspirational leaders. The ‘learning together’ approach encourages a culture where all staff are listened to and valued.”
